As humans, we are as curious as we are social. With the evolution of communication, social media- we can connect with millions of people through multiple devices. While this can be a good thing, people love to take advantage, sometimes by trolling, bullying, and sending out pure hate.

I understand everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but are you minding your business? Here are some ways you are not minding your business.

  1. You are damning people to hell because they don’t agree with your religious value?

If you answered yes, you are not minding your business! Yes, you are entitled to your opinion but as much as it bothers you no one cares and being blocked hurts a lot more than not saying anything. You don’t have to care what people think, but the internet is forever and future employers even potential friend.

2. You’re commenting on gender issues that don’t concern you.

If you are disagreeing about gender, just realize that you are fighting a never-ending battle because an individual’s sexuality, orientation, and gender does not concern you. A person’s identity is their own to transform and not anyone’s else’s. Maybe you can find it within yourself to mind your own business because you will be dying with your own identity not theirs.

3. You’re making assumptions based on your own privilege to comment on the struggles of others!

Not only are you not minding your business, you’re lacking empathy. Feeling sorry for ASPCA animals does not count as empathy, human and animals are not synonymous especially on levels of consciousness. Someone who is wealthy will never have the same path as someone who has to work for a living, a minority will never experience the same as a white person. Someone who is geographically hindered cannot have the same experience as someone who lives five minutes from a Trader Joes!

4. You’ve used your political opinion to justify racism on social matters!

No one wants to be called a racist, but if you are called one, it’s time to reevaluate your entire way of thinking. Patterns of racism can be passed down from parent to child and it can be difficult to notice if it’s been practiced for an entire lifetime.

5. You’re going around bad-mouthing a person or persons that you don’t know.

Yeah, it’s fun to gossip but once gossip comes back around it’s a lot more stressful realizing that those you’ve hurt are aware of the things you said. Shame is worse than grief or physical pain, it’s that sinking feeling associated with the cold sensation that fills your body. Losing someone you love to a few words hurts a lot more than shame.
